New Internet technologies are appearing so
fast it can be difficult keep track of them all. Here are just some of the technologies
that we can use to give your website an edge.
Java Applets
If your browser supports Java Applets then
you will have already seen them in action on our web page. Java is used to animate the
appearance of the menu buttons and to highlight the buttons when necessary. If you also
have a sound card you might have noticed that the applet plays a sound when you click on
the buttons.
Guinness Game
Several people have asked
about this one, click here to see it.
Macromedia Flash
This is a very cool
system for doing web graphics and multimedia content. It relies on the users computer to
render antialiased images and animations. Its only drawback is that the user must first
download an ActiveX control or plugin to use it. This process is normally fairly painless
and as Flash becomes more popular more and more people well already have it installed.
To see a Flash version of our site click here. If you already have then you will notice
that the menu now scales with the size of your browser window but maintains a nice
antialiased appearance. The buttons should also fly on in a slightly more
interesting way.
Green-eyed Monsters from Mars
Check out this cool game we have developed.
The game demonstrates interactive Java Applets. A table of high scores is maintained by a CGI
script written in Perl.
ActiveX
We can develop ActiveX content using C++
and the ATL. ActiveX is considerably more powerful than Java but lacks the cross platform
compatibility and good security features.
